Columbia State CC infielder joins Blue Raiders
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's baseball program added a fourth member to its 2016 recruiting class on Wednesday as Ryan Kemp has signed his national letter of intent to join the Blue Raiders.
Kemp is an infielder from Columbia State Community College and will come to Middle Tennessee with two years of eligibility remaining after spending his freshman and sophomore campaigns with the Chargers.
"Ryan brings a lot to the program and not just as a player," head coach Jim McGuire said. "He has a lot of intangibles and is an extremely hard worker.
"He's a great player that has good power for a smaller guy and he can play all three infield spots."
In 33 games this season, Kemp is hitting at a .330 clip and has seven doubles and five home runs while drawing 22 walks and striking out just 13 times. Kemp has driven in 30 RBIs on the season and has stolen 13 bases in 18 attempts.
As a freshman at Columbia State, Kemp was named to the All-TJCAA Second Team while playing alongside current Blue Raider infielder Riley Delgado.
Kemp hit an impressive. 401 as a freshman with 12 doubles, two triples and two home runs while getting called out on strikes just 12 times in 46 games. He also drove in 37 runs and stole 15 bases in 20 attempts in his rookie campaign.
A native of Hendersonville, Tenn., Kemp graduated from Goodpasture Christian School where he was a four-time All-District selection and was named All-State in 2014. He was also a member of Goodpasture's state championship team in 2012.
"We'll look for Ryan to assume a leadership role even coming in as a junior college guy," McGuire added. "We've seen him play since high school and all the way through junior college and he just brings a lot to the program."
