Laari breaks MT 5K record in California

Dadzie, Ampomah Place First in Javelin at APSU
NORWALK, Calif./CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With the Blue Raiders at two different meets Friday, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams impressed at both the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, California and the APSU Invitational in Clarksville, Tennessee.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, it was much of the same for newcomer Sampson Laari, who broke his own 5,000 meter school record with a blazing time of 14:02.22. Laari previously set the Middle Tennessee outdoor 5K record at the Raleigh Relays, finishing in 14:16.14.
The women's 800 meter was a competitive finish for the Blue Raiders, with Agnes Abu capturing first in 2:07.21, while freshman Susan Aneno placed third in 2:08.11.
At the APSU Invitational, three Blue Raiders competed in the women's triple jump, placing two in the top 10. Pershawna Williams and India Hammond finished third and fifth, respectively, with distances of 12.56 meters (41-2.75) and 12.12 meters (39-9.5).
In the javelin, Middle Tennessee captured first in both the men's and women's events.
Elizabeth Dadzie, a newcomer from Kumasi, Ghana tossed a personal-best 39.45 meters (129-5) for first, while on the men's side, John Ampomah, a 2015 NCAA Outdoor All-American, placed first with a throw of 77.25 meters (253-5).
In the men's triple jump at Austin Peay, Phillip Smith bounded 15.59 meters (51-1.75), narrowly missing his season-best distance of 15.66 meters on way to a third-place finish.
Middle Tennessee continues competition at the Mt. SAC Relays and APSU Invitational Saturday.
