Round 2 Results
FORT MYERS, Fla. – With 18 holes left to play in the 2016 Conference USA Championship, Middle Tennessee finds setting the pace once again at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers.
The Blue Raiders fired an 8-over par 296 on day two to land at 16-over par for the championship. They lead Old Dominion (+17) by one stroke after the Monarchs carded a five-over par 293 in round two.
"We were four under on the last four holes as a team," head coach Chris Adams said. "It was great to have another solid finish like that today, but we did have a couple of stretches where we struggled as a whole."
Hanley Long continues to pace the Blue Raiders after matching her first round score of even-par 72 on the second 18. The true freshman found herself at three-over par at the turn before jumping back to even with three consecutive birdies on 10, 11 and 12.
"Hanley really got hot after getting into some trouble on hole 9," Adams added. "It was awesome to see her respond like that."
The Clarksville, Tenn., native is currently tied for second place at even par for the tournament, one stroke back of the individual leader.
Samantha Gotcher, last year's individual runner-up at the C-USA Championship, was one stroke shy of Long on day two with a one-over 73, moving into a tie for fifth place at four-over par for the tournament.
Jenna Burris moved one spot up the leaderboard on the second day of the championship, shooting a three-over 75 to land in a seventh-place tie with the final round still to be played.
Seniors Avery George and Emily Miller matched each other once again in round two, both carding rounds of four-over 76. The pair sit in a tie for 12th place at seven-over par.
Middle Tennessee has 18 holes left to fend off their Conference USA competitors and in an attempt to repeat as Conference USA Champions. They will be paired with Old Dominion and Southern Miss as they play the final round.
"Everyone really stayed strong again today," Adams added. "We are right where we want to be with a chance to finish it off in the final round."
Miller will tee off first for MT on the final day with an 8:50 a.m. ET tee time. George, Burris, Gotcher and Long will follow in 10 minute intervals after Miller.
Live scoring will be available throughout round three at www.golfstat.com.
