Wyrick Earns Pair of Weekly Awards

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore left-hander Jake Wyrick hauled in a pair of weekly honors following a career outing on the mound for the Blue Raiders on Sunday.
The Tennessee Sports Writers Association named the Cleveland, Tenn., native the pitcher of the week on Tuesday after tossing a three-hit complete game shutout against the Charlotte 49ers Sunday.
Wyrick struck out five batters in the contest while not allowing a single walk. The southpaw got stronger as the game wore on, sitting down the final 16 batters he faced in the game.
College Sports Madness also named Wyrick their Conference USA Player of the Week on Tuesday after the stellar performance.
With the win, Wyrick improved to 3-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.49. He has struck out 37 batters this season while giving up just 22 walks and 29 hits in 38.2 innings of work across 10 appearances.
The win on Sunday also sealed a series win for Middle Tennessee against Charlotte, their first in conference play this season.
After a pair of home midweek games against Tennessee and Tennessee Tech, the Blue Raiders will travel to UAB looking for a second straight conference series win.
