Netters to face rival to start C-USA tourney
2016 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship bracket
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Just five short days after the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team got the best of Western Kentucky on Senior Day, the Blue Raiders and Hilltoppers are set to square off again.
MT and WKU are scheduled to hit the courts for their first round match on Thursday at approximately 3 p.m. The match will be at the Adams Tennis Complex and outside unless weather forces the first round to be played inside.
The bottom of the MT lineup excelled last Saturday against their rivals, as Alory Pereira and Costanza Magazzini came away with dominant singles wins after earning a 6-2 doubles victory at No. 3.
Although the Blue Raiders are coming off that huge, 4-1, win to close out the regular season, MT head coach Charlie Ramsay knows this first round match means much more.
"Tournament play is a different animal," Ramsay said. "You have to be efficient in the way you take care of your business and you have to be fit physically and mentally."
The winner of eight seed MT vs. nine seed WKU will play the top-seeded FIU Panthers on Friday at 10 a.m.
"We're very excited to host the C-USA tournament here in Murfreesboro," Ramsay added. "We have a beautiful new facility to show off, and I know it will serve as a great host site."
Admission is free throughout the tournament, and every match will be played at the Adams Tennis Complex. Updates on the tournament will be posted on Twitter, @MT_WomensTennis and @Conference_USA, as well as the C-USA Championship Central.
