First Day of Auburn Invitational complete for Raiders

AUBURN, Ala. – On the first day of competition at the Auburn Invitational, Eliud Rutto continued his success from the previous weekend, while Agnes Abu broke the Middle Tennessee 1,500 meter record at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.
Rutto, who ranks second in the NCAA, notched a season-best 3:43.48 time in the 1,500 meter to capture first. The Eldoret, Kenya native's time currently ranks as the 26th best time in the NCAA.
Sampson Laari, who holds the 5,000 meter Middle Tennessee outdoor 5,000 meter record, finished second in the 1,500 meter in 3:43.58.
Alden Dixon and Kigen Chemadi competed in the 5K, finished fourth and ninth, respectively. Dixon nearly missed setting a personal-best time in the 5,000, completing the race in 14:50.87. Chemadi competed in the 5,000 for the first time in the 2016 outdoor season and finished in 15:08.85.

In the triple jump, Phillip Smith placed third after leaping 15.27 meters, while Vincent Okot bounded 15.11 meters for frouth.
For the women's squad, Agnes Abu finished fourth with a personal-best time of 4:22.19 in the 1,500 meter, setting the MT record in the process. Abu was the lone Blue Raider to compete in the running events Friday.
India Hammond and Pershawna Williams competed in the triple jump with Hammond jumping a season-best 12.47 meters (40-11) for third. Williams finished seventh after bounding 12.07 meters (39-7.25)
Middle Tennessee continues competition at the Auburn Invitational Saturday.
