FINAL RESULTS
TEXARKANA, AR – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team missed out on match play at the Conference USA Championship by two strokes after putting up a 299 total in round three. The Blue Raiders finished fifth overall with an 844 cumulative score on the par 72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club course.
No. 38 UAB won stroke play with an 865 followed by Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA. The top four compete in match play tomorrow for the conference title.
For the tournament, MT finished second in par 5 scoring at 18-under par and tied for second in total pars with 166.
"It was a disappointing end to what has been a difficult year," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "It was a tough day for our guys who have never been in contention because they did not handle it very well. Hopefully, some of them learned from this experience and will be better the next time. We will continue to work hard and get better as a team and program so we will not have these feelings in the future."
Freshman Marcus Byrd owned the top round of the day for Middle Tennessee as he carded an even par 72. Byrd had three birdies on his round and ended the tourney tied for 26th at 9-over par.
Freshman James Beckner and junior Connor Slane both turned in rounds of 75 on Tuesday. Beckner tied for 22nd overall at 8-over par, while Slane tied for 29th at 10-over par.
Sophomore Hoyeong Kim, who entered the day in second place, shot 77 in round three and finished in 12th place. Kim had a birdie and eagle on the day to finish 4-over par for the tournament. He was also 7-under par on the par 5s to rank third in the field.
Junior Drake Duncan, fresh off a 69 in round two, struggled to an 82 on Tuesday to finish 10-over par for the week.
