Raiders split for final meets before C-USA Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After the entire Middle Tennessee track & field teams competed in one location last week, the Blue Raiders are scheduled to compete in three different meets Thursday through Sunday.
Events: Penn Relays, Memphis Invitational, Payton Jordan Invitational
Dates: Penn Relays (Thursday, April 28 – Saturday, April 30), Memphis Invitational (Saturday, April 30), Payton Jordan Invitational (Sunday, May 1)
Final Meets Before Conference USA
The Memphis Invitational, Penn Relays and Payton Jordan Invitational are the last scheduled meets for the Blue Raider track & field teams prior to the Conference USA Championships May 12-15.
The C-USA Championships are hosted by Middle Tennessee at the Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
USTFCCCA Rankings
The Middle Tennessee men's team dropped one spot from their previous season-high ranking of 20th to 21st in the latest USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings, which were announced Monday.
Eliud Rutto and Sampson Laari each competed in the 1,500 meter at the War Eagle Invitational April 22, which added to the projected point totals. Rutto and Laari each are projected to score at the NCAA Championships in two separate events, the 800 meter and the 1,500 meter.
Jacob Patten, Phillip Smith, John Ampomah and Atsu Nyamadi are also tallied in the latest point totals which are now using current season data only as the previous rankings used projected totals from 2015 as well.
Ampomah and Nyamadi are the second and third largest projected totals for the Blue Raiders, with Ampomah adding 26.20 projected points, while Nyamadi adds 17.39. Rutto's ranking in the 800 meter has the Eldoret, Kenya native providing 30.27 projected points.
For the Middle Tennessee women, the Blue Raiders vaulted another 16 places to 117th. Agnes Abu and Susan Aneno make up the highest projected points for Middle Tennessee with the duo competing in the 800 meter.
Ampomah Returns to Penn
John Ampomah, a 2015 NCAA Outdoor All-American and NCAA Championship runner-up in the javelin, returns to the Penn Relays after winning the javelin one-year ago. The Ghana native tossed a school record 81.55 meters (267-7), which also was the top distance in the NCAA for the 2015 season.
