Teams to play DH Saturday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blake Benefield had three hits and three Blue Raiders enjoyed multi-hit performances but it wasn't enough as Marshall took the opening game of a three-game series, 11-1, from Middle Tennessee at Reese Smith Jr., Field Friday.
Due to the threat of inclement weather Sunday, the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday. The first game is set for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
Benefield, who has back-to-back three-hit performances, had his ninth double and continued to swing a hot bat. AJ Spencer was 2-for-4 and Brad Jarreau was 2-for-3.
Marshall jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the first off of starter Tyler Troutt and never looked back. Troutt settled in and posted three shutout innings before Marshall broke through for three more in the fifth to knock him out of the game.
The Blue Raiders picked up their only run in the eighth when Drew Huff scored on a sac fly off of the bat of Kaleb King in the eighth.
Spencer will be on the mound for the opening game Saturday. Jake Wyrick will make the start in the nightcap.
