George, Miller both in top 10 through 36 holes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two Blue Raiders will enter the final round of the Web.com Intercollegiate in the top 10 as Middle Tennessee holds a two-stroke lead with 18 holes to play.
Middle Tennessee was in a tie for second place through the first 18 holes, finishing round one at even par (288).
The Blue Raiders fired a one-under 287 in round two and overtook the top spot by the end of the day.
"I'm very happy and proud of the team for putting two solid rounds of golf together today," head coach Chris Adams said.
Toledo trails narrowly at one-over par while the next closest contender, Chattanooga, is six strokes back from the Blue Raiders at five-over par.
Avery George shot a two-under 70 in round one but leveled off at even par for the tournament with a two-over 74 in round two.
Emily Miller carded back-to-back rounds of even par 72 to land in a tie for eighth place alongside her fellow MT senior.
Samantha Gotcher was at three-over par through round one but fired back with a one-under 71 in round two to move into a tie for 16th at the end of day one.
"We dropped a few strokes again towards the end of the day, but Samantha finished the day with a couple of birdies in her final four holes and that really helped us out," Adams stated.
Freshman Jenna Burris opened the day with a seven-over 79 but bounced back in a big way with a two-under 70 in round two to land at five-over par through 36 holes.
Fellow freshman Hanley Long started the day with a one-under 71 before dropping some strokes in round two, ending the day at six-over par.
"We played really well today, but it's very helpful to get rounds from freshmen like we got from Hanley in round one and Jenna in round two today," Adams added.
Maddie Denton joined the field competing as an individual and landed at 16-over par (81-79=160) through the opening 36 holes.
"I feel good about how we played today but we still have our work cut out for us," Adams said. "We just need to go out tomorrow, have fun and take care of business."
The Blue Raiders begin the final round with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CST and will be paired with Toledo and Chattanooga. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
