Football Position Breakdown: Linebackers
4/7/2016 6:00:00 PM | Football
Today GoBlueRaiders.com takes an in-depth look at the linebackers as spring drills continue. We will look at each position throughout the spring.
Key Returnees: DJ Sanders, Chris Melton, Darius Harris Player to Watch: Everyone will be under the microscope at linebacker since it will be one of the most inexperienced positions on the field. Junior DJ Sanders has waited patiently to be an every down player so keep a keen eye on him, along with transfer Myles Harges. Harges drew praise from the coaches early last year and felt he could have contributed before his injury saddled him for the year. Coaches are also very anxious to see Kory Lamberts. ---Coach Nix on the linebackers "We are athletic, fast and just as explosive as we were a year ago with a little more size. The leader of this bunch will be DJ Sanders who has seen a lot of action for us the past two years and now will have the chance to start. We expect a lot from him. Myles Harges was vying for playing time a year ago before getting injured and he has stepped into a leadership role and has basically taken control of the defense. Chris Melton and Darius Harris will compete at the Will position. Melton has shown flashes of T.T. Barber type play but will be pushed by Harris who is active, rangy and chomping at the bit to be on the field. I feel like we have a strong first unit but it will depend on the development of the backups to see how deep we will be." --- ![]() | Players Sam DJ SANDERS (Junior ) – Was seventh on the team in tackles last year, playing in all 13 games ...
