Nyamadi, who ranks sixth in the NCAA in the decathlon with 7,800 points, finished day one with 4,021 points and holds a 142 point lead over UTSA's Adrian Riley.
The Ghana native opened the decathlon by placing fourth in the 100 meters in 11.30 second for 796 points. Nyamadi then rattled off four-straight first place finishes in the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters, tallying 2,400 points.
In the long jump, Nyamadi leaped 7.17 meters (23-6.25) to capture first, which tied his second-best distance of the season. Nyamadi then set personal-best distances in the shot put after a toss of 14.07 meters (46-2) and clearing 2.01 meters in the high jump (6-7).
Nyamadi provided a last burst of energy on the long day that saw a two-plus hour weather delay in the 400 meter. In the first heat of the event, the Ghana native finished in 49.76 seconds, pulling away after 200 meters and never looking back.
"Nyamadi did a great job today and has done well," said Hayes. "His goal is to finish tomorrow like he did today and win the individual title."
Elizabeth Dadzie enjoyed a successful first day of competition, as she concluded the day at second overall through four events with 3,301 points. Dadzie started the competition off by winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.49, which earned her 1,052 points.
After a high jump of 1.56 meters (5-1.25), Dadzie held the lead after two events with 1,762 points. The Kumasi, Ghana native notched the fourth best toss in the shot put, with a mark of 11.63 meters (38-2).
Dadzie finished the day winning the 200 meter with a time of 24.61 seconds, which narrowly eclipsed her personal-best time of 24.50.
"Our goal for her is that we would like for her to win the individual title here, but it also is for her to score enough points to get in the NCAA," said head coach Dean Hayes. "At this rate she should be able to do it as the final three events tomorrow she is good in."

Abdullah-Muhammad earned her best finish of the day in the high jump, placing first with a personal-best distance of 1.68 meters (5-6). The Tennessee native also nabbed a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 25.57.
