RESULTS
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – On the second day of the Conference USA Track & Field Championships, Elizabeth Dadzie won the heptathlon and Atsu Nyamadi won the decathlon to become the first champions for the Blue Raiders at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Nyamadi continued his pace from the first day, winning three more events, while also placing second in the 1,500 meter to close competition. The Ghana native finished the two-day competition with 7.588 points, while UTSA's Adrian Riley was second with 7,064 points.
Nyamadi opened Friday's competition with a blazing pace in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing first in 14.73 seconds. In the senior's second win of the day, Nyamadi tossed the discus 43.29 meters (142-0.5) to capture first, while also capturing first in the javelin with a throw of 61.50 meters (201-9.5).
In the heptathlon, Dadzie notched a career-best 5,599 points in the seven-event competition, a new career-high for the Ghana native. Dadzie's point total beat UTEP's Luola Mokrasova by 18 points.
Dadzie nabbed first in the long jump, leaping 6.20 meters (20-4.25), while in the javelin finished fifth with a throw of 34.28 meters (112-6).
With one last event to go, Dadzie finished the day in the 800 meter, holding on to fourth to finish in 2:19.70.
Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad also performed exceptionally well, finishing fourth with a career-best 5,026 points.
Abdullah-Muhammad had her best finishes in the final day of competition in the javelin and the long jump. The Tennessee native notched a throw of 34.37 meters (112-9.5) for fourth, while in the long jump she leaped 5.62 meters (18-5.25) for fifth.
In the women's 10,000 meter, Gladys David and Hannah Maina were the two to represent the Blue Raiders. David finished behind three-time C-USA 10,000 Outdoor Champion Cali Roper for second in a school record 34:53.89.
David, who now holds the women's 10,000 meter record, joins an elite group of Middle Tennessee athletes, including her brother Justus David, who is the men's 10,000 record holder.
Middle Tennessee continues competition tomorrow with the third day of the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Dean A. Hayes Stadium. The men's long jump are slated to start competition Saturday at 3 p.m., with running events to start at 4 p.m. with the women's 1,500 meter prelims.
