Moonen, Buitrago and Rauch added to 2016-17 roster
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, Middle Tennessee men's tennis has notched the No. 25 recruiting class in the country, according to tennisrecruiting.net.
Max Rauch, Tom Moonen and Nicolas Buitrago will come to Murfreesboro in the fall to begin their college tennis careers as Blue Raiders. MT head coach Jimmy Borendame is excited for their arrival and addition to the team.
"I think all three will have an impact on the singles lineup right away," Borendame said. "Tom and Max will both be very strong doubles players also, which was an area that needed improvement."
As for the rest of the top 25, The Ivy League led all conferences six programs on the list. The SEC and ACC were next with five, followed by the Pac-12 with four and the Big Ten with three. Only one team from the Big 12 was represented.
The release from tennisrecruiting.net spoke highly of MT's recruiting class: "Only one recruiting class in our rankings comes from a program outside of the so-called 'high major' conferences - No. 25 Middle Tennessee of Conference USA. Head Coach Jimmy Borendame has three international recruits coming in to Murfreesboro who all have ITF junior rankings. We expect MT to rank highly in our mid-major rankings which will be published in a couple of weeks."
Miguel Negre Fernandez and Gian Issa will be returning for their junior seasons in 2016-17, along with a number of Blue Raiders returning for their second year.
"The next two years we won't lose anybody from the roster," Borendame added. "We were in the rankings this year, and I think this coming season we'll be stronger than we were this past year. The next two years I'm expecting good things."
The newest Blue Raiders will hit the ground running when they arrive on campus in the fall.
"We'll get to know them really well, and spend time with them individually," Borendame said. "We also do a ton of fitness in the fall, so they should be in the best shape in their life."
