Ramsay picks up another recruit for 2016-17
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis will now have four newcomers to the 2016-17 team, as head coach Charlie Ramsay has announced the signing of Marta Peris Herrero.
"Marta was very heavily recruited and we feel so fortunate that she chose us," Ramsay said. "She'll bring a wealth of experience to our program even though she will be a freshman having played juniors at such a high level."
A native of Spain, Herrero earned a ranking of No. 47 in the Spanish Women's Open Division. Her best ranking in the Spanish U-16 Division was No. 7.
Along with being the Champion for Spanish Communities in 2012, she also was a finalist in U-16 international doubles competition.
"We see Marta being able to contribute right away in both singles and doubles and feel she will make an immediate impact on this program," Ramsay added.
Herrero's teams have also had great success, as she was part of three Valencian Team championships from 2013-15, as well as a championship with her home country in 2015.
"I am so excited and happy for this opportunity to be part of the MT tennis team," Herrero said. "I am sure I will enjoy and learn a lot at this stage of my life."
After a 14-8-1 record in his first year at the helm of the Blue Raiders, Ramsay is excited about where this class of recruits will take the program.
"We couldn't be happier about our recruiting class for next year. Each one will bring so much to the table and will move our program forward in a big way," he said.
