Eligible for Academic All-American
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee senior pitcher Garrett Ring has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All District 3 First Team for his combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The son of Lori and Billy Ring, Garrett Ring is one of two pitchers to be named to the District 3 First Team and one of 16 pitchers nationally to be honored. District 3 includes all of Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
By earning a spot on the All-District first team, Ring will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected.
"What a tremendous and deserving honor for Garrett," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jim McGuire said. "Garrett is an outstanding competitor, both on the field and in the classroom. Garrett, like many of our players, is the epitome of what a student-athlete should truly be in both areas. I'm very proud of Garrett.
At the time of his nomination, Ring sported a 1-1 record with one save and a sparkling 1.26 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .219 against Ring, a native of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. Ring fashions an impressive 3.73 grade point average and majors in Exercise Science. He wants to pursue a career in sports medicine.
"I am honored and grateful to win this honor," Ring said. "Doing well academically has always been a priority and something that has been instilled in me so it is nice to be recognized academically, as well as athletically."
Ring has also earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll status this semester, and he also is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
