Four Blue Raiders Named All-Americans

Rutto, Laari, Ampomah All First-Team Honorees
NEW ORLEANS – From their performances at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, three Blue Raiders were named First-Team All-Americans, while one received Second-Team All-American accolades. Two more garnered Honorable Mention All-American honors.
John Ampomah, who netted the highest finish for the Blue Raiders at the NCAA Championships, was a first team member for his third-place performance in the javelin.
Newcomer Sampson Laari was named a First-Team All-American and earned his first All-American honor in a Blue Raider uniform for his 5th-place finish in the 800 meter.
Eliud Rutto, who finished seventh in the 800 meter, earned his second First-Team All-American honor in 2015-16. Rutto finished runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 800 and added to his impressive 15-16 campaign with his performance at the outdoor championship.
Atsu Nyamadi faced off against some of the top decathletes in the world at the NCAA Championships and finished 10th, which netted the senior his second career Second-Team All-American honors.
Phillip Smith and Elizabeth Dadzie each were recognized for their efforts at the championship and were named Honorable Mention All-American. Smith finished 18th in the triple jump, while Dadzie was 21st in the heptathlon.
