NCAA Championships Next For Raiders

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Six Blue Raiders are slated to take on the NCAA's best at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field Wednesday-Saturday.

Hayes Honored by USTFCCCA
In his 51st year at Middle Tennessee, head coach Dean Hayes was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region Men's Coach of the Year.
Hayes watched over a program that sent five individuals to the NCAA Championships this year, which include John Ampomah (Javelin), Sampson Laari (800 Meter), Eliud Rutto (800 Meter), Atsu Nyamadi (Decathlon) and Phillip Smith (Triple Jump).
At the 2016 NCAA East Regional, Ampomah became a back-to-back regional champion in the javelin, while Smith advanced after a personal-best 15.86 meter jump.
Nyamadi, who competed in the long jump and javelin at the NCAA Regional, was selected previous to the competition in Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the NCAA's in the decathlon. The Ghana native earned his school record and personal-best point total of 7,800 at the Georgia Decathlon earlier in 2016.
Laari and Rutto, each battled it out in two 800 meter races at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville to advance out of the region.
Blue Raider Men Recognized by FloTrack
In FloTrack's final projections prior to the NCAA Championships, the Blue Raider men's squad was projected to finish eighth in Eugene with 19 team points.
In the 19 point breakdown, Ampomah, Nyamadi and Rutto each are slated to score at Hayward Track.
Dadzie Lone Female to Compete for the Blue Raiders
Elizabeth Dadzie is the lone MT women's track & field athlete competing this year at the NCAA Championships.
Dadzie tallied a personal-best and Middle Tennessee school record 5,599 points in the heptathlon at the C-USA Championships and finished with the seventh-highest point total in the East Region and 20th in the NCAA.
The Ghana native is slated to start competition Friday with four events in the heptathlon.
