Turn back Ottawa, 57-46
SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA – Middle Tennessee's first game of its foreign tour was a success as the Blue Raiders turned back the University of Ottawa, 57-46, in San Jose, Costa Rica Wednesday night.
Every active player on the roster played extensive minutes and contributed to the victory. The only student-athlete not to participate was freshman Shayla Middlebrooks, who is rehabilitating from offseason surgery.
"I was pleased overall with the way the young ladies played and handled different situations," Blue Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "This was the first game for several of our players in our system and even some sophomores played more extensively and did well. We have not worked a lot on defense and such for this trip so, overall, I am happy with the performances of several players."
Senior Ty Petty did what she does best with another stat sheet stuffer performance. Petty led the Blue Raiders with 12 points, collected six steals and dished out five assists. Sophomore guard Jess Louro was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.
Post players Gabby Lyon and Alex Johnson were beasts in the paint and on the boards. Lyon finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, including an eye-popping seven offensive caroms. Johnson was also solid with eight points and seven rebounds.
Abbey Sissom and Jordan Majors scored six points each, Kyla Allison added four, Mychelle Johnson netted two and Rebecca Reuter tallied one.
Charity Savage didn't score but she was solid on the boards with three rebounds in six minutes and played sound post defense. Sophomore point Katie Collier was also impressive with two steals.
Middle Tennessee will return to action against Coronado Thursday at 8 p.m. (Central).
