Blue Raiders set for Saint Mary's Tournament

MT to take on Nevada, Saint Mary's and UC Riverside
MORAGA, Calif — Following a 1-2 mark in Knoxville last weekend, Middle Tennessee seeks to gain early-season momentum in the Saint Mary's Tournament hosted by the Saint Mary's College Gaels.
The Blue Raiders will travel to California for the second time in program history and the first time since the 2000 Pepperdine Tournament in Malibu. MT will face Nevada Friday at 5 p.m. CT before closing the weekend against Saint Mary's at 2 p.m. CT and UC Riverside at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday.
MT won its season opener in straight sets against ULM last weekend before dropping hard-fought matches to Cincinnati and Tennessee.
Bailey Mason, who was named to the DISH Tennessee Classic All-Tournament Team, paced the Blue Raiders with 26 kills. Regan Coughlin and Vonnie Covington added 22 and 17 kills, respectively, with Covington leading the team in hitting percentage with a .278 clip.
Jacqueline Lux, who made her first start as a setter, dished out 76 assists accompanied with a team-best 26 digs.
Nevada (1-2) suffered a five-set setback to North Texas followed by a loss to Texas A&M, but the Wolfpack finished the weekend strong with a three-set win against Texas State. Senior Madison Morell recorded 46 kills throughout the weekend, and freshman Shayla Hoeft provided the defensive presence with 10 blocks.
Host Saint Mary's (2-1) earned a 3-1 opening-day win against Northern Colorado. The Gaels lost to No. 25 Colorado StateSaturday, but rebounded with a 3-1 win against North Dakota State. SMC turned in a balanced effort offensively as six players recorded double-digit kills in the opening weekend, with sophomores Lindsey Knudsen and Sarah Chase leading the way with 37 and 36 kills, respectively.
UC Riverside (2-1) knocked off Southern Utah in back-to-back matches before falling in a five-set thriller to host California in the Molten Classic last weekend. Senior Fabiana Rosas paced the Highlander offense with 57 kills in 10 sets played on the weekend, while senior Maddie Hubbell paved the way defensively with 69 digs and sophomore Chelsea Doyle added 140 assists.
This weekend will serve as MT's first meeting on the court against Nevada and UC Riverside. The Blue Raiders won the lone matchup against Saint Mary's, a 3-2 victory in 2006 in the Nebraska Tournament.
