MT begins four-match road trip in Winston-Salem
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Riding the momentum of a thrilling five-set win in their last match against Tennessee Tech, the Blue Raiders hit the road once again for a four-match road swing starting at Wake Forest Wednesday night.
First serve in the mid-week tilt between the Raiders (2-7) and Demon Deacons (2-5) is slated for 5 p.m. CT from Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Freshman Aubrie Huddleston led the way offensively the last time Middle Tennessee took the court with a 14-kill performance. Two other Raiders logged double-digit kills as Dora Peonia had 12 and Regan Coughlin totaled 10. The 57 team kills sit as the single-match team high this season.
Peonia led MT in hitting percentage at .267, while Delaney Gallagher established her defensive presence with four total blocks.
Junior setter Jacqueline Lux, who dished out a career-high 42 assists against Tech, leads the team with 256 assists on the year. Her 8.00 assists per set ratio ranks seventh in Conference USA.
Defensively, MT allows the second-fewest kills and assists per set in C-USA, giving up just 10.72 and 9.47 per set, respectively.
Wake Forest dropped its first two matches of the Springhill Suites Invitational last weekend against No. 24 South Carolina and host Georgia Southern before closing the tournament with a win against Buffalo.
The Deacons are led by Kylie Long who has tallied 82 kills on the season and averages 4.32 kills per set.
The Demon Deacons claim a 1-0 lead in the overall series, winning the only matchup 3-0 in 2001 in Alabama's Turkey Tournament.
Following Wednesday's match, the Blue Raiders will remain on the road for their final tune-up before conference play. MT will head to Richmond, Va. for the VCU Invitational and face off against Morgan State and VCU on Friday, and close the weekend with a matchup against Liberty on Saturday.
