Brown scores two in conference opening win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the first conference match of the season, the Blue Raiders (3-4-1, 1-0) came back from two tied scores to earn the 4-2 victory on Sunday evening over UAB (4-4, 0-1). Abbie Brown netted two of MT's four goals, one in each half to bring her season total up to four on the year.
UAB opened up the scoring early in the contest finding the back of the net in the seventh minute of action. Megan Hudgens slid a pass across the box that Jessica Do put away.
The Blazer lead didn't last long as the Blue Raiders came back with a goal of their own in the 13th minute. Courteney Gibson got the ball out wide and dribbled to the endline before crossing it across goal. Brown was able to get on the end of to make it a 1-1 game.
The Blue Raiders continued the half holding a solid amount of the possession, pressing up front. Casey Reimer and Amber Hoot crossed a few balls each into the box that lead to shots from Brown, Cameron Cox and Angie Lai.
However it was Hoot that gave Middle the lead going into halftime. She kicked a shot from range in the 31st minute that slipped in over the top of the goalkeepers hands into the upper left corner of the net.
The Blazers opened the second half up with an early goal once again off the foot of Do, her second of the game, to tie the match at two apiece.
MT was able to break the tie to earn its second lead of the night with 18 minutes to go in the game. The Blue Raiders earned a free kick from 35 yards out and Sydney Navarro laid a ball in that found the head of Brown for the 3-2 advantage.
To seal the win, Salera Jordan added an insurance goal in the 85th minute. Casey Riemer beat her defender and slotted a ball to Jordan in the box. Jordan was then able to fire the ball into net to give the home side a 4-2 win.
Middle had the advantage in the game in shots 20-17. Sydney Chalcraft recorded eight saves in net for the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee's next contest is a road match against UTSA in San Antonio, Texas. The Blue Raiders play on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7pm CT.
