Finished in top 25 at Mason Rudolph
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee sophomore Hanley Long has been named the Conference USA Female Golfer of the Week following her Top 25 performance at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the league office announced Wednesday.
"I'm very proud of how well Hanley played in such a talented field," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "To play as well and consistent as she did against that kind of talent is great.
Long, a native of Clarksville, Tenn., carded a 5-over par 221 (74-74-73) in the three-day event at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, placing her in a tie for 23rd place in the field of 81.
In her second appearance at Vanderbilt's home tournament, Long was one of just 13 players to shoot 74 or better in all three rounds and finished in the top 33 in Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5 scoring for the tournament. She also tied for 10th in the field in total pars with 38.
Long defeated a pair of golfers that were ranked in the Top 50 nationally in the most recent Golfweek individual rankings in UCF's Ashley Holder (No. 32) and Northwestern's Kacie Komoto (No. 38).
The weekly award is the first for Long, who was an All-Conference USA Second Team selection as a freshman last year after finishing second at the Conference USA Championship.
"Hanley is starting this season right where she finished off last season with her second place finish at conference and is really doing her part to help this team succeed," Adams added.
