Blue Raiders show off offense in first fall game

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team kicked off the fall season on Thursday night. The Blue Raiders hosted Volunteer State in a 10 inning game that wasn't shy on action.
MT came away with the 14-1 victory, picking up 19 hits. Nearly the whole roster got a chance to take the field in the first showing of the year.
In the circle, five different pitchers for the Blue Raiders got a chance to show their stuff. Veronica Westfall started things off for the home side. Cori Jennings, Gretchen Greer, Sarah Pinkston and Pattie Ruth Taylor also saw action. The group totaled 10 strikeouts in the game.
In the field, several Blue Raiders saw their first action. Summer Burgess and Samantha Vacko got the start in the infield while Lexi Cushing and Kaylyn Slatter entered the game in the fifth inning. Keely McGee made her debut as a pinch runner before heading to the outfield in the fifth as well.
Several veterans for MT returned to the Blue Raider Softball Field as well. Morgan Harris, Lauren Payne, Danielle Munoz, Kristin Uselton, Deja Portillo, Lauren Riddell, and Kirstyn Cuccia began the game. Austyn Whaley made a showing in the fifth inning along with Payton Grove.
The Blue Raiders next fall game will be at home on Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Bryan College at 5:30pm.
