Salera Jordan bags two goals for Middle
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Middle Tennessee challenged for a late equalizer Saturday night at UTSA but came up just short, falling 3-2 to the Roadrunners.
The Blue Raiders had just five shots on goal in the match but held UTSA to just seven despite having 10 less shots on the night.
Salera Jordan opened up the scoring early in the game for Middle Tennessee, scoring on a cross from the right wing off the foot of Courteney Gibson.
The goal was Jordan's fourth of the year, tying Abbie Brown for the team lead, while it was Gibson's team-best fourth assist in 2016.
UTSA answered soon after when they put a header in the back of the net on a corner in the 15th minute.
The action slowed slightly after that as the teams totaled just five combined shots on goal in the first half and went into the break tied 1-1.
The pace picked up quickly as the second half got underway with UTSA striking less than four minutes in to go up 2-1.
Just four minutes later UTSA doubled their lead, but MT fired back in the 57th minute when an Abbie Brown corner found Jordan who headed it home for her second goal of the game and team-high fifth of the season.
Haley Nishimoto fired a shot on goal in the 75th minute looking to tie things up but came up empty before Jordan had one last attempt for the Blue Raiders inside the final minute but UTSA held on to earn the conference win.
Middle Tennessee returns home on Sep. 30 when they host Florida Atlantic at 7:00 p.m.
