Byrd leading way, tied for 4th
CINCINNATI – In tough weather conditions Monday, Middle Tennessee had rounds of 290 and 291 (+13) and stand in eighth place after 36 holes of the 2016 Bearcat Invitational. The event is being held at Coldstream Country Club (Par 71, 7,080 yards).
Michigan State owns the overall lead at 2-under par with Ohio State second at 1-under par.
"We got off to a solid start this morning in some tough conditions," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "Unfortunately we did not take advantage of the easier conditions in the afternoon like most of the field and now we are in a big hole. I am confident we will bounce back in the final round and salvage a good finish."
Sophomore Marcus Byrd, coming off a third place finish in his last tournament, led the way again for the Blue Raiders. Byrd had rounds of 68-72 and is 2-under par and tied for fourth.
Senior Joey Savoie carded a 74 and then an even par 71 and is tied for 18th. Savoie is tied for fourth in the field in par 4 scoring at 2-under.
Freshmen Ilari Saulo and Chip Thomas are both tied for 29th. Saulo had identical 74s in each round while Thomas registered a 75 and a 73.
Senior Connor Slane turned in a 151 total with rounds of 76-75 and is tied for 44th. Slane's 14 pars are tied for second most in the field.
Sophomore James Beckner is in 60th place with a 160 total (76-84).
The final round is set for Tuesday beginning at 8 AM.
