MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Middle Tennessee Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is proud to announce that they will be participating in the Conference USA Food Drive Challenge. Starting on Friday, October 14th the SAAC will begin taking donations of select food items during designated athletic events.
The SAAC will collect contributions through Thursday, October 20th. The food collected will be donated to the MT Student Food Pantry and Greenhouse Ministries. For those unable to attend the designated games, food can be dropped off at the Student-Athlete Enhancement Center (SAEC), which is adjacent to the ticket office at the south end of Floyd Stadium. Food can also be dropped off at the MTSU Student Food Pantry, which is located in the MT One Stop. The donations contributed will aid MT in placing in the Conference USA Food Drive Challenge.
Participants can drop food donations off at the following athletic events:
Oct. 14: Volleyball vs UTSA at AMG (7 PM)
Oct. 15: Football vs WKU at Floyd Stadium (1:30 PM)
Food items eligible for donation include canned fruit and vegetables, canned, boxed, and bottled juices, bottled water, canned tuna, pop-tarts, raisins, canned or dried beans, fruit cups, soups, canned chili, canned meats, snack packs/pouches, granola bars, rice, nuts, pudding, peanut butter, cereal, oatmeal, crackers, macaroni and cheese, pasta mixes, muffins, and popcorn.
"For the 2015 Conference USA Food Challenge, our final total was 10,746 pounds of food. That was up from the 6,181 pounds from 2014. We placed third last year, so we are hoping for second or first this year. We appreciate the past support from the Campus School, Business & Finance Division, Coach and Mrs. Insell, Coach and Mrs. Davis, Raider Canstruction, Campus Planning, and our MTSU students, faculty, staff and fans. You are all appreciated for helping so many people." – Todd Wyant, Director of the Student-Athlete Enhancement Center.
Since its opening, the MT Student Food Pantry has collected over 36,000 pounds of food and 2000 students have benefited from its presence on campus. To learn more about the Student Food Pantry, please contact Becca Seul at 615.494.8910 or Becca.Seul@mtsu.edu.
