Raiders 7th at Bearcat Invitational
FINAL RESULTS
CINCINNATI – Middle Tennessee wrapped up play at the 2016 Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday with a seventh place finish but had two players in the top five. The 54-hole event was held at the Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7,080 yards).
The Blue Raiders had rounds of 291-290-294 for an 875 total and 23-over par.
"It was a disappointing finish for the team as a whole but the experience of playing on some different grasses on a different type of golf course will only help us in the future," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "However, I still believe it was a very beneficial week for the program."
Michigan State won the 10-team tournament with a score of 855 followed by Ohio State with an 859 and College of Charleston with an 861.
Senior Joey Savoie and sophomore Marcus Byrd led the Blue Raiders but it was Savoie's 68 in the final round that paced MT. Savoie had four birdies in round three and eight for the tournament as he tied for fifth overall. He finished the week 3-under par on the par 5s.
Byrd captured his second straight top five finish with a 213 total. The Atlanta, GA native had rounds of 68-72-73 and led the team with nine birdies. He also ranked second in the field in par 3 scoring at 1-under to tie for fifth overall.
"A great tournament for Joey and Marcus," added Webb. "I am really proud of both of them and the mindset they had this week."
Senior Connor Slane and fresmen Ilari Saulo and Chip Thomas all tied for 44th with scores of 227. Slane added a 76 in the final round while Saulo and Thomas both carded a 79.
Sophomore James Beckner tied for 58th with a 237.
The Blue Raiders will be off until heading to the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic in Atlanta, GA Oct. 17-18.
