Byrd named C-USA Golfer of the Week

First award for the sophomore
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee sophomore Marcus Byrd was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday. It goes down as the first honor for Byrd who ranks second on the team with a 73.0 stroke average.
Byrd was one of just six players in the entire field to shoot even par or better at the Bearcat Invitational at the Coldstream Country Club. The invitational comprised a very strong field that included four teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
Byrd, who led the team with nine birdies, finished with an even par 213 and was second in the field in par 3 scoring. The Atlanta, GA, native opened with a 3-under par 68 and followed with rounds of 72 and 73 to tie for fifth overall.
It marks the second straight top five finish for Byrd who was third last week at the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove where the field consisted of eight teams that competed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
