Coughlin enjoying first season as Blue Raider after transferring from Coastal Georgia
GoBlueRaiders.com will conduct a series of Q&A features with different volleyball players throughout conference play. Today's feature is transfer sophomore outside hitter Regan Coughlin. Coughlin is originally from Bloomington, Ill.
GBR.com: After transferring from Coastal Georgia this past year, how has the transition been to Middle Tennessee?
RC: It was a little scary at first just because there were some unknowns. You don't know if you are going to play. You don't know if you are going to do well. You don't know if you're going to like everybody. At first it was a little scary, but it got so much better as soon as the whole team was here. They were so welcoming and so accepting. Then, I just put in work during practice and made sure I was going to be able to do my best here.
GBR.com: You play outside hitter but also tally some digs and blocks. Do you like having those defensive responsibilities?
RC: I love it. Defense is my favorite. It's so fun.
GBR.com: What is your favorite part about Murfreesboro so far?
RC: The people and the friends I have made here. They are great. I wouldn't have met them if I hadn't come here, so I'm thankful for that.
GBR.com: Being from Illinois and having lived in three different states in three years, what has that experience been like?
RC: It's been an adventure. It's a little scary because there were some challenges – moving away from your parents and all your friends, and then everything being new all the time. It's good though. I think change is a good thing.
GBR.com: What would you say is your best athletic achievement?
RC: I would say last year at Coastal Georgia I got Freshman of the Year for our conference. That was really cool.
GBR.com: What has been your favorite memory as a Blue Raider?
RC: The alumni game was really fun. It was cool to see people even in their 60s coming back and playing, and they were killing it. It was so fun to be able to play with them and see that they still enjoy playing volleyball even now.
GBR.com: What is your favorite emoji?
RC: I would say the upside down smiley face. I think it's kind of a little sassy and sarcastic, so I use it if I say something and I'm being sarcastic, then I'll throw it in there.
GBR.com: Who is the funniest person on the team?
RC: Delaney Gallagher, 100 percent. She's a goofball.
GBR.com: Who has the best dance moves on the team?
RC: Also Delaney. Well, no. I'll say it's a tie between Delaney and Makila York.
GBR.com: What is your favorite platform of social media?
RC: I would say Twitter because people can post really funny stuff and what they are thinking.
GBR.com: Who is the best person you follow on Twitter?
RC: Honestly, my dad is pretty funny. I love his tweets. They can be pretty random.
GBR.com: Do you have a particular pre-match routine?
RC: No, I don't really have anything that I'm superstitious or picky about. I'll go in the locker room, jam to some music and get hyped for the game.
GBR.com: Do you have any secret talent not many people know of?
RC: That's a good question. Not that I can think of. I can low-key break dance for a second, but that's about it.
GBR.com: Kanye West or Taylor Swift?
RC: Oh, I would say Kanye.
