Blue Raiders return home to face Rice

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After splitting a pair of matches to open conference play, Middle Tennessee welcomes Rice to Alumni Memorial Gym for the C-USA home opener Friday night.
Friday's action is set for a 7 p.m. start with coverage via beIN Sports Connect (https://beinsportsconnect.tv/index.html ). The first 100 fans to Friday night's contest will also receive a free Middle Tennessee koozie.
The Blue Raiders return to Murfreesboro following a win against UAB last Friday and dropping a match against Marshall on Sunday.
Regan Coughlin and Bailey Mason, who both eclipsed the 100-kill mark for the season against UAB, lead MT's offense with 108 and 104 kills, respectively. Setter Jacqueline Lux continues to succeed in setting up the offense as the junior has tallied 434 assists the season, which is good for seventh in C-USA with 8.68 assists per set.
Defensively, MT sits atop the conference in assists allowed per set, surrendering just 9.92 helpers per frame.
The Raiders also excel in disrupting the opponent's offense from the service line, ranking third in C-USA with 1.44 service aces per set. Delaney Gallagher served a career-high five aces against UAB and leads MT with 12 aces on the season.
Rice (9-7, 2-0) enters the match on a five-game winning streak after defeating UTEP 3-2 and sweeping LA Tech last weekend.
Chelsey Harris paces the Rice offense with 219 kills and averages 3.53 kills per set.
The Owls also boast a stout defense with 146.5 blocks on the year and rank third in the league with 2.36 blocks per set. Portia Okafor leads the defense with 69 total blocks, while Grace Morgan and Harris have added 48 and 44 total blocks, respectively.
Following Friday night's tilt, the Blue Raiders will host rival WKU for Sunday's Blue Out and Greek and Student Appreciation Day. The weekend finale is slated for a 1 p.m. first serve with coverage on beIN Sports Connect.
