MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A defensive battle at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium fell the way of Florida Atlantic Friday evening as Middle Tennessee dropped a 1-0 decision against the Owls.
The Blue Raiders logged 15 shots with five on goal on the evening while holding FAU to 10 shots, seven of which were on frame.
Sydney Chalcraft collected six saves on the evening to push her season saves per game average up to 5.3.
The first half featured strong defensive performances on both ends until Florida Atlantic was able to open the scoring in the 37th minute when Sammy Rowland headed home a goal off of a Kelsey Parry corner.
Amber Hoot came close to tying the game just a few minutes later but saw her shot glance off the crossbar as the two sides combined for just five shots on goal in the first 45 minutes while taking a pair of corners each.
Both teams had a couple of shots early in the second half with Abbie Brown finding the crossbar in the 51st minute.
Salera Jordan provided the best Blue Raider chance of the second half as she guided a left-footed attempt through the FAU defense but the keeper went to the ground to collect the shot and preserve the lead.
The Blue Raiders attempted to push up the field as the clock wound down, but were unable to break through the Owl defense to force overtime.
Middle Tennessee stays at home to complete its first two-game conference weekend as the Blue Raiders host FIU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
