New date, elite field set
COLLEGE GROVE - The third annual Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove is fast approaching, with a date set for Sept. 17-20.
Middle Tennessee has in the past hosted the 14-team tournament, which is free and open to the public, during the last weekend of October. This year, the tournament has been pushed up a month in order to attract the best field possible.
"We are very excited to have Franklin American Mortgage sign on to be our title sponsor. They are leaders in their industry and their name and involvement, along with our partnership with The Grove Club, has enabled us to attract an elite field for what will be one of the best college tournaments of the fall season," said MTSU Men's Golf Coach Brennan Webb.
"The game of golf is one of my great passions," said Franklin American Mortgage Company President/CEO Dan Crockett. "It is a privilege to be the title sponsor for this year's event and we wish all of the talented young players the best of luck."
This year's field is the best in the tournament's three-year run with eight programs who competed in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Blue Raiders will compete against Cincinnati, College of Charleston, Elon, Georgia, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Louisville, McNeese State, Memphis, Mississippi, North Carolina State, Troy and Wisconsin.
Past winners of the tournament include Ohio State in 2014 and Kentucky in 2015.
The Grove Club is a par 72, 7,368-yard course that opened in 2012. It was designed by former PGA tour player Greg Norman, and it is famous for maintaining the natural character of the land it's on with natural rolling hills, meandering stream beds and native grasses.
Tee times for all three rounds will begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 18-20. The awards ceremony will be conducted Tuesday after the tournament.
The Blue Raiders will have a tournament page on GoBlueRaiders.com with recaps from each round. Live scoring can also be found at Golfstat.com.
