Abu named C-USA's female track athlete of the week

Honor marks second weekly award in sophomore's career
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For her solid effort at the Ed Temple Classic this past weekend, sophomore Agnes Abu was named this week's Conference USA female track athlete of the week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Abu took first place in the mile run with a time of 5:00.18. The mark set the new season-high time in C-USA and also ranks No. 38 in the country.
The Ghana native led a 1, 2, 3 finish for the Blue Raiders in the event. Rachel Kigen finished second, while Sharon Kibiwott rounded out the top three.
The honor marks the second time Abu has been recognized as the female track athlete of the week, with her first award coming on Feb. 16 of last season.
As a team, MT claimed seven first-place finishes in the Classic, competing against host Tennessee State, Kentucky State and Arkansas Pine Bluff.
The Blue Raiders return to action this weekend in the Commodore Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt. The two-day event gets underway Friday at 4 p.m.
