Three Blue Raiders clock personal bests
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the final day of the Commodore Invitational, a pair of school records and a facility record was broken as the Blue Raiders capped their third meet of the season.
On the men's side Sampson Laari led the way for one of the best races of the day and set a new school record in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:05.88.
Kigen Chemadi and Jacob Choge followed Laari in the 3000 meter with fifth and sixth places finishes, clocking times of 8:06.49 and 8:11.97, respectively.
Ifiok Umoh ran a personal best in the 400 meter with a finishing time of 48.07.
For the women, Abike Egbeniyi clocked a 2:04.47 800 meter, which broke the previous school record set by teammate Agnes Abu last season and established a new facility record at Vanderbilt's multipurpose facility of its Recreation Center.
"Abike set a school record in the 800 with Sampson posting a first for us," Coach Dean Hayes said. "Those were two really great races for us today."
Following Egbeniyi, Abu finished third with a time of 2:05.56.
The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Taylor Day, Agnes Abu, Janet Amponsah and Abike Egbeniyi also nabbed a second-place finish with a time of 3:40.17.
Middle Tennessee will return to Nashville next weekend for the Vanderbilt Invitational and seeks to improve its times with a few new faces in the rotation.
"We'll have a few kids coming back from break," Hayes said. "Hopefully we will have a few additions next week."
