Netters drop two matches in Knoxville

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis went on the road to Knoxville over the weekend, falling to Tennessee Saturday afternoon and Wake Forest on Sunday.
The Volunteers got off to an early start in the match by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Brittany Lindl entered play ranked as the No. 64 singles player in country according to the ITA, and she took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot of the singles lineup.
Tennessee took singles wins on courts two and three to round out the 4-0 win over the Blue Raiders on Saturday. Luisa Zirilli pushed her match to a third set after winning the second set, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot, followed by Marta Peris Herrero, who came close to forcing a third set at No. 6.
Lidia Burrows and Costanza Magazzini cruised to a 6-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles against Wake Forest on Sunday, but the Demon Deacons earned wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles to take the first team point of the match.
In singles play, Wake Forest won in straight sets on courts two, three and four to clinch the 4-0 victory. At the No. 6 spot in the lineup, Holly Horsfall was unable to finish her match, but was in a tiebreak during the stoppage.
Middle Tennessee returns to Murfreesboro for a break from matches until the Blue Raiders host Western Kentucky and UT-Martin on Feb. 4 at the Adams Tennis Complex for their final indoor matches of the 2017 dual match season.
