MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee sophomore standout Alex Johnson has been named C-USA Co-Player of the Week after producing the third-highest scoring output in a league game this season with 37 against Florida Atlantic Saturday.
Johnson, who is second in scoring in C-USA with 19.4 points per game, helped lead Middle Tennessee to a pair of wins last week as they remained in a three-way tie atop the league standings.
"Alex had an outstanding week, but she has been pretty consistent throughout the season," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "Part of our strategy is getting the ball inside to Alex and she has been doing a good job finishing."
Johnson's 37 points against Florida Atlantic were the most points scored by a Lady Raider since Alysha Clark's 48 against UALR (3/9/10). Johnson averaged 29.5 points for the week, to go with 4.0 rebounds. She also shot 82 percent (18-of-22) from the free-throw line in the two games combined.
Johnson shot 61 percent (20-of-33) in the two games combined, and she was a sizzling 7-of-9 for 22 points in last Thursday's win against FIU.
"I really have to give my teammates the credit," Johnson said. "We did a great job of moving the basketball. My teammates kept getting me the ball in position to score, and I was able to put it against the glass and in the basket. All conference games are big so we were glad to get those two at home last week."
It is Johnson's first Player of the Week award and the sixth weekly award of her career after being named C-USA Freshman of the Week five times last season.
Middle Tennessee will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss Thursday.
