Afful, Abdullah-Muhammad named Athletes of the Week

Juniors earn first career C-USA honors
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For their outstanding efforts this past weekend at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Middle Tennessee's Solomon Afful and Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad have been named Conference USA's Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Seeing his first action as a Blue Raider, Afful set personal-best records in the 60 meter and 200 meter events to garner C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week. The junior grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 21.03, while finishing second in the 60 meter with a 6.76 mark. Afful's 200 meter time ranks first in the conference and is No. 19 in the nation.
In the field, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad shined in the long jump with a leap of 19'11" (6.07 meters) to land a first-place finish and earn C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week. The Cleveland, Tenn. native also set a new meet record, which was previously set at 5.67 meters. The junior's jump moved her into first place in C-USA in the event, while also placing her at No. 29 in the country.
These are the first career C-USA Athlete of the Week honors for the duo.
As a team, Middle Tennessee grabbed eight first-place finishes at the KMS Invitational.
The Blue Raiders are set to host the final indoor meet of the year before the Conference USA Championships. Action from Murphy Center will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with the field events before the track events begin at 2 p.m. to conclude the day.
