MT seeks fifth straight win against Owls
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After erasing a 14-point deficit for a 64-61 victory against UAB, the Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders return to Murphy Center Thursday to face Rice for the first conference home game of the season.
Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. with Dick Palmer and Duane Hickey calling the action on 89.5 WMOT. Fans can also log on to CUSA.TV/RaiderVision for a live stream of the game.
Thursday marks just the fifth meeting between the two programs, with MT claiming a 4-0 record in the series.
Senior guard Ty Petty garnered national attention after last week's stellar performances against Central Michigan and UAB. The Murfreesboro native averaged 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the two contests to be named C-USA Player of the Week and USBWA National Player of the Week, as well as landing a spot in NCAA.com's weekly Starting 5.
Overall, the Lady Raiders (6-6, 1-0) have won four of their last five games and have scored 71.2 points per outing during that span. Alex Johnson leads the Raiders with 17.4 point per game while Petty adds 15.8 points a night. Each mark stands as third and fifth-highest in the league, respectively.
Rice (9-4, 0-2) enters Murphy Center after dropping a pair of conference games against Old Dominion and Charlotte. Shani Rainey and Jasmine Goodwine pace the Owls' offense with 12.7 and 10.5 points a game, respectively, while Lexie Ducat hauls in 4.9 rebounds a night.
Defensively, Rice leads Conference USA in scoring defense as the Owls surrender just 54.6 points a game to their opponents this season.
After Thursday's matchup, the Lady Raiders play host to North Texas on Saturday. This weekend's action against the Mean Green is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip.
