DENTON, Texas – Head coach Kermit Davis and the Blue Raiders finish off their first road trip of the 2017 Conference USA schedule Saturday as they take on the Mean Green at the Super Pit.
Middle Tennessee and North Texas will be meeting for the 21st time between the two programs with MT holding a 13-7 advantage all-time. Davis is 12-6 against NT as the Blue Raider head man and 3-1 since joining Conference USA.
Middle Tennessee pulled off a commanding 22-point win against the Mean Green a season ago in Murfreesboro, but lost by one the last time they were in Denton. Middle has a 5-4 record all-time in Denton.
Middle Tennessee (12-3) moved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time in their four years as a member of Conference USA behind a trio of offensive stars at Rice Thursday night. Senior Reggie Upshaw led the way with 20 points while JaCorey Williams added 19 and Giddy Potts had 17.
The same trio is the only set of players on the same team that all rank in the Top 11 in scoring in the league. Williams is averaging a team-best 17.5 points per game while Potts (15.9) and Upshaw (15.7) rank close behind the Arkansas transfer.
North Texas (6-9) has opened up league play at 0-3 after a heartbreaking home loss to preseason league favorite UAB, 54-52. North Texas led for over 28 minutes in the contest – including a majority of the second half – before UAB stormed back and overtook the Mean Green in the final minute.
2016 All-Conference USA Second Team selection Jeremy Combs leads the way offensively for North Texas, scoring 11 points per game on 57 percent shooting from the field. He also leads the Mean Green on the glass with 6.7 boards per game.
The Raiders and Mean Green are set to tip off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Denton.
