MIAMI, Fla. – In an exciting overtime game, the Middle Tennessee soccer team came away with a 2-1 win at FIU on Sunday. Peyton DePriest was the Raider hero, scoring both goals in the match. Middle moves to 5-5, 2-1 on the year.
FIU struck first in the match, in the 21st minute but just before halftime DePriest scored her first goal of the game. She received a ball through traffic from Amber Hoot. She was then able to dribble around the outstretched goalkeeper to even the game at one apiece.
The game was tied after regulation and headed to overtime, the third overtime game of the season for Middle.
It took MT just four minutes for DePriest to strike again. On a free kick, Cameron Cox found the ball near the top of the box and flicked it on. There the ball found DePriest who also gave it a swift jab up and over the outstretched arms of the FIU keeper to give MT the 2-1 win.
Sydney Chalcraft made three saves in goal for the Raiders while the MT offense took 16 shots and seven corners.
