SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 16-25, 15-25) to the UTSA Roadrunners on Friday evening in the Convocation Center.
Sophomore Dora Peonia led the Blue Raider offense posting 15 kills to hit on a .268 clip. The Castel Bolognese, Italy native also racked up seven digs and two service aces.
Similarly, junior Makila York posted 10 kills and three blocks over the Roadrunners while junior Bailey Mason notched 14 digs and two kills on the evening.
From her setter position, sophomore Taylor Hammill inked 29 assists, four kills and a service ace during the match.
Sophomore Brienna Tankesley registered 15 digs in the match to pace the Blue Raider defense.
In the first frame, the Blue Raiders came out with a 14-10 lead over the Roadrunners with kills from Mathis, Peonia, York, Mason and Maxim. UTSA battled back to tie the score at 15 before Middle Tennessee clinched the first set (25-21) with a service ace from Hammill.
The Roadrunners opened the second set with a 3-0 run over the Blue Raiders before Middle Tennessee battled back to tie the score at 3-all. The Blue Raiders tied with UTSA another eight times before falling in the second frame, 25-22.
In the third set, the Blue Raiders recorded the first kill of the set before the Roadrunners went on a 9-3 run over Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders fought hard to bring the score within six before dropping the third frame, 25-16.
UTSA clinched the match after taking the fourth (25-15) and final set over Middle Tennessee.
Up next, the Blue Raiders return to the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sunday Oct. 15 to host the Charlotte 49ers.
