IRVING, Texas – For the second time this season, Jacob Choge has been named C-USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
Choge finished first in the Crimson Classic hosted by Alabama on Friday, Oct.13, beating out over 220 other runners. He ran a personal-best time of 23:22.3 in the 8k, four seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
His first place finish boosted the No. 25 men's team to a first place finish as well. The Blue Raiders beat out many of the other top teams in the region for the title including SEC schools Alabama, Auburn, and Texas A&M.
"Choge ran with the three top Alabama runners the whole way and ran really well with them," said Head Coach Dean Hayes. "At the end he turned it on just like he usually does and in this case he was able to outsprint all of them and made a great race out of it to win it. Choge is very tough and very cool under pressure, he doesn't get too excited and the way he wins his races is to hang with the pack and then get them at the end. That has been his way of operating and he does it very well."
Choge and the Blue Raider cross country teams will return to action when they go for the conference titles at the C-USA Championship in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
