Eight Blue Raiders to compete this weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – As Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team closes in on the end of the fall season, eight Blue Raiders will be in Knoxville this weekend to compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, hosted by Tennessee.
"I think we've had a good couple weeks of practice for those guys that didn't go to Louisville last weekend," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "Our assistant coach Sebastian Rey and volunteer assistant John Kreis ran practice, and the guys got a different perspective on the things we're working on. We love to compete, and we're excited for this weekend."
Last season's ace Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore will be back on the courts this weekend for the first time since the ITA All-American in Tulsa, where he won two matches in third sets. Sophomore Tom Moonen will also be in action, and he'll look to improve on his 2-3 singles mark so far this fall.
In doubles action, Miguel Negre Fernandez boasts an unblemished 5-0 mark this fall, and freshman Chris Edge leads the Blue Raiders in doubles victories with seven. Gian Issa, Luis Morillo Diaz, Jan Porteset and Max Rauch will also compete this weekend.
"Our doubles looks solid right now," Borendame added. "We're getting to show off our depth this weekend. I feel like all 10 guys on our team could be playing in the lineup right now. I'm looking forward to seeing our guys get better this weekend and compete against some tough teams"
