Raiders Ready to Host Final Home Games of the Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee soccer team hosts its final two games of the season this weekend as the team pushes for a C-USA Tournament berth. The Blue Raiders (7-7, 4-3) face off against LA Tech (10-2-5, 3-1-3) on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and will play their senior day on Sunday, Oct. 22 against Southern Miss (6-6-3, 0-4-3) at 2 p.m.
Thursday's game against LA Tech will feature a special honorary captain in Andie Owen. Andi is a Murfreesboro native that was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. The Blue Raiders game will be a sendoff party, as she will be fulfilling her Make-a-Wish later this weekend. Andi will be traveling to train with the United States Women's National Team in North Carolina on Saturday.
Sunday's game with Southern Miss will be the Blue Raiders' senior night. The team will honor Cameron Cox, Sally Gill and Kerri Cook after the final whistle.
The Blue Raiders and LA Tech have met four times in the past with the Lady Techsters leading 2-1-1. LA Tech won the last contest in 2016, 2-1. Amber Hoot had the lone MT goal in the game, it came in the last minute of the match on a cross from Casey Riemer. Haley Laque scored both of LA Tech's goals and she will return for this year's match.
Southern Miss and Middle have met seven times in the past with the Golden Eagles leading 4-2-1. Last year, Southern Miss took down the Raiders 4-0 in the final game of the 2016 season. Stephanie Garcia had a hat trick in the game while Becky McMullan scored one, both will be back in this season's contest.
LA Tech enters the game sitting in sixth place in the conference standings and is currently tied with Middle with 12 points. They have recorded conference wins over FIU, UTSA and Charlotte.
The Lady Techsters boast the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, senior Nomvula Kgoale. She has collected the squads only Player of the Week honor, a defensive award back in the first week of the season.
On the offensive end, the Lady Techsters have two players with eight goals on the year, Jenna Dages and Mylene Roy-Ouellet. Roy-Ouellet also leads the team in assists (three), points (19), shots (36) and shots on goal (19).
Courtney Tompkins will be in goal for LA Tech, having played the majority of the team's last four matches. She has seven of the Lady Techster's 10 wins, three of which were shutouts and has posted 53 saves on the season.
Southern Miss enters the weekend winless in conference play and in 12th place in the standings with just three points. The Golden Eagles have three ties in conference matches, two of which occurred last weekend both 1-1 games against Old Dominion and Charlotte.
The Golden Eagles have collected one Player of the Week award. Becky McMullan won the offensive honor in August after scoring three goals in the squad's first two wins of the year. She has five goals on the season, second-most on the team.
Ola Akinniyi leads Southern Miss in goals with six and has a team-leading 13 points. McMullan also has 13 points. Miah Zuazua leads the Golden Eagles in assists (five), shots (42), and shots on goal (18). Zuazua also has the team's lone penalty kick goal.
Kelly Brahmbhatt has played over 1,000 minutes in goal for Southern Miss this season. She has two individual shutouts and one combined shutout. Brahmbhatt has made 60 saves on the year.
The Raiders enter the weekend in seventh place in the conference standings with 12 points to their name. Last weekend, the team split their two games in Texas, falling at Rice 4-2 and defeating UTEP 3-1.
Taylor Hatch scored in both games to bring her season total up the three goals. Peyton DePriest also added to her team lead in goals, she is now up to 10 on the year. That is good for second-most in C-USA and 21st in the nation. DePriest continues to lead the team in points (23), shots (45), shots on goal (22) and game winning goals (four). Amber Hoot collected another assist as she continues to lead the Raiders in that category with five.
Sydney Chalcraft made 15 saves in net last weekend to bring her season total up to 67 as she has played every minute in goal for MT this season.
