MT Visits Southern Miss and UAB This Weekend

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team continues its Conference USA play on the road, traveling to Southern Miss and UAB on Friday and Sunday.

MT Records Second C-USA Win of the Season
Last time out, the Blue Raiders recorded their second conference win over the Charlotte 49ers to clinch their third five set win this season. It was a successful outing for Middle Tennessee as five Blue Raiders notched new career-bests in the match.
Junior Makila York and sophomore Dora Peonia paced the MT offense, inking a combined 44-kills in the match. Meanwhile, junior Bailey Mason and freshman Josie Maxim also contributed a combined 16-kills to create a +30 edge (75-42) in kills over the 49ers.
Sophomore libero Brienna Tankesley matched her career-best of 23 digs in the match to notch a new season total of 257 digs. Tankesley averages 3.25 digs per set to rank tenth among C-USA competitors.
Likewise, sophomore setter Taylor Hammill notched a career-high 62 assists over the 49ers while picking up seven kills, seven digs and three aces.
Blue Raiders and Peonia Move Up in National Ranks
As a squad, Middle Tennessee ranks seventh among Division I competitors in aces per set (1.76) and in total service aces (139). Likewise, sophomore Dora Peonia ranks eighth in the nation with 39 service aces this season and tenth averaging .51 aces per set.
Scouting the Opponents
The Blue Raiders have dropped the last two matches in straight sets to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Middle Tennessee notched their last win over the Golden Eagles in four sets in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sept. 28, 2014.
Southern Miss notched their fourth conference win on Monday to boost the Golden Eagles to 4-2 in Conference USA action. Junior Kylie Grandy and freshman Chandler Marshall pace the Golden Eagles offense inking a combined 495-kills on the year.
Early this season, Middle Tennessee fell to the UAB Blazers in four sets in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sept. 22. The Blue Raiders are 3-5 in Birmingham, winning the last two matches in Bartow Arena.
The Blazer's offense is led by redshirt-senior Gabby Deshotel recording 270 kills to average 3.10 kills per set this season. Meanwhile, junior Emily Martinez leads the UAB defense with 339 digs on the season.
