DePriest, Hatch put MT up early
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A fast start by the Blue Raiders earned them their fifth league win of the season Sunday as they downed Southern Miss, 2-1, on Senior Day.
Middle Tennessee's superb freshman Peyton DePriest opened the scoring, notching her 13th goal of the season just nine minutes into the contest thanks to an excellent through ball by redshirt freshman Sam DeBien.
Sophomore Taylor Hatch doubled the Blue Raider lead just 14 minutes later as fellow sophomore Amber Hoot played a perfectly placed through ball into the box for her classmate.
After an excellent defensive display for much of the match, Southern Miss was able to get a goal back in the 86th minute, but it would just be a consolation as MT held its 2-1 lead in the final minutes.
With the win, Middle Tennessee moves into sixth place in the Conference USA standings with one match left to play in the regular season. The Top 8 teams in the standings following next weekend will compete in the Conference USA Tournament Nov. 1-5 in Boca Raton, Fla.
