FINAL RESULTS
VERO BEACH, FL – Middle Tennessee moved up three spots on the final day with an impressive 12-under par 276 to tie for seventh at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. The 276 tied for the low round of the year and equaled the ninth-best round in school history.
South Florida won the tournament with a 44-under par 820 total followed by Michigan State at 25-under par. Louisville was third, and Notre Dame and Maryland tied for fourth. The Blue Raiders were 20-under par.
"We had a good bounce back round after our round Monday afternoon," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "Chip (Thomas) and Tyler's (Johnson) rounds today were critical in us moving up the leaderboard. Unfortunately, the hole we dug ourselves into was a little too big to move into the top five."
Redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson continued his strong play by leading the Blue Raiders with a 9-under par 207 total. Johnson finished tied for 10th and carded a career-best round of 67 on Tuesday. Johnson, who was 8-under on the par 5s, led the field in par 3 scoring at 3-under.
Sophomore Chip Thomas carded a career low round of 66 on the final day to tie for 15th with a 210. Thomas' 66 matched the eighth best round in MT history. Thomas led the Blue Raiders on the week with 17 birdies.
Junior Marcus Byrd finished at 3-under par to tie for 33rd after posting a 1-under 71 in round three. Byrd was 1-under for the tournament in par 3 scoring.
Junior James Beckner opened with a 2-under 70 and then had back-to-back 72s to tie for 37th. Beckner led the Blue Raiders with 40 pars for the week which tied for the second most in the field.
Sophomore Tanner Owens tied for 66th with a 224 total after finishing with a 1-over 73 in round three. Owens, who was even par on the par 3s, recorded one of the team's three eagles on the final day.
The Blue Raiders will host the MTSU Intercollegiate at Old Fort Golf Club on Monday, October 30.
