Four netters to compete in hidden dual weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis is set to travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the TCU Fall Invitational starting Friday morning and ending on Sunday.
Four Blue Raiders will compete the event, which is slated to be in a hidden dual format, against opponents from Rice, Baylor, Texas A&M, Northwestern State and the host team, TCU.
"TCU is a world class University, and they know exactly how to host a great event," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "They're extremely well coached, and we can learn a lot from them and the rest of the teams at this tournament."
Costanza Magazzini is tied for the team lead in singles wins through three events with a record of 6-4, including three triumphs at the Samford Fall Invitational to claim the win in her flight. Magazzini has 1-1 mark in matches that go beyond the second set, including a first round win at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional over an opponent from Cincinnati.
Also tied for the team lead in singles wins is Maria Josefina Zehnder, with a record of 6-2. Zehnder won four matches at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, including three wins in the Main Draw Singles bracket before falling to an opponent from Vanderbilt in the Round of 16.
Lidia Burrows is 5-4 in singles this fall, and all but three of her matches have seen a third set. All four of her matches at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional went past the second set, and she is 2-4 in matches that end in a third set.
Also competing at the TCU Fall Invitational is Luisa Zirilli, who currently owns a 4-5 record for the fall season. Two losses have come against opponents from teams ranked in the top-25 in the most recent rankings.
"We've got to believe that we are a great team and expect to win every time we go out," Ramsay said. "This weekend will be a good test for us."
