LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Middle Tennessee softball team was honored for their academic success today by Easton and the National Fastpictch Coaches Association. The Raiders earned a 3.616 team GPA for the 2016-17 school year, ranking them fourth amongst Division I softball programs.
"It's a great honor for our kids," said Head Coach Jeff Breeden. "They work extremely hard in the classroom and on the field as well. Our academic staff here at Middle Tennessee is great with our kids. Wes and Todd do a great job of making sure the girls do what they're supposed to do and excel in the classroom."
Middle joins (in order), Western Carolina, Missouri State, Alabama, Sacred Heart, Saint Louis, Harvard, Troy, Western Kentucky and Kent State as the Division I top ten.
"We couldn't be more happy and more pleased with being fourth in the country," Breeden said. "We joined some extremely great company like Alabama being right in front of us there and maybe even ahead of some Ivy League schools. So, for our public university here in Middle Tennessee and Conference USA, we think it's a great honor."
Easton and the NFCA are set to release their list of Individual All-American Scholar Athletes early next week.
On the field, the Raiders play a fall season game on Sunday, Oct. 8. MT hosts Volunteer State at the Blue Raider Softball Field at 12 p.m.
